DATA LOG: 12/02/20xx
After so many failures, I finally have created it. The starting steps in creating artificial life. The Delta Project has officially begun with the success of Composite CANINE. CANINE, as his name implies is composed from various dogs I found.he still is composed of human parts, but he is essentially an artificial dog man, a functioning brain and all. I’m still running other tests, but cognitive and physical tests have proven fruitful.
He is a dog man, the greatest accomplishment really is his skeleton. His nervous system was a bit difficult, but thanks to my experience with CLASHER it was made easier. I can say with confidence he is a fully artificial human, no body swapped parts or augmentation, I built a humanoid. His skull is perhaps the greatest achievement. Only wolves come close to have such massive skulls nowadays, so I essentially created a new skull to make a proper head. His neck also was “custom made”. His upper torso otherwise is a modified human skeleton, and the lower half his legs were twisted and reformed to be more like a canine’s hind legs. He is a massive bruiser.
To my surprise, he is able to talk. My expectations were that he would not, nor was I intending him to be given the ability to speak; just only minor vocalizations such as growls and snarls of a typical dog. But no, he’s fully able to articulate. The reason I didn’t think this was possible was due to the combination of parts used. The facial structure, his vocal folds, I believed them to be a miss match.
I’ve written down some of the things he has said, the most common which include…
“Semetary…”
“CLASHER…”
“Need… food…”
“Give… food…”
“Thirsty…”
“Yes…”
“…No…”
It’s very basic, very very basic. But he is able to understand and communicate. He can recognize names, identify others, he is cognitive and aware. I fear I may have misjudged his intelligence, I used canine brains for his but, it’s astounding. Furthermore, he’s clearly able to understand commands and orders. It should be obvious from the fact he communicates, but he willingly obeys my orders and commands, and executes them without delay. He is a truly loyal subject… yet…
I do wonder though, if that black substance I’ve used is what’s responsible for this intelligence. I’ve known for a while now that my father’s notes described as “‘Nightmare Fuel” has been a key ingredient in forming the earlier composites in the Beta and Gamma lines. It has helped with splicing and grafting parts together, I wonder if it somehow fused the vocal folds in such a way they would work in unison. It’s a bit frustrating not having a proper explanation for this now, I know not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but really this couldn’t be “vampire’s blood”, could it? I don’t have all of my father’s notes recovered; this discovery of his hidden stash of this ichor was a boon, but its still not all of his research. However, I seem to be in the right direction with this. I have to be.
But on that brain issue, if this “fuel” can graft, splice, fuse and practically change parts to work… would it take from the human dna used to make the canine based brain more like a human’s? Would he gain more sentience? More intelligence? Or, because his brain was only comprised of canines will it only ever match the intelligence levels seen in dogs. Perhaps more of the intelligent breeds, I imagine that’s the average level it could grow to is that comparable to a human infant. But I may have to place inhibitors on him like I had to with the Beta and Gamma composites if it continues to exceed expectations.
If there has been one constant hurdle, it’s the mind. Or rather… an instinctual will to defy.
